Michael Thiele is a woodsmith who makes musical instruments and playable furniture. He spends most of his life either in the shop or out on the road buying wood and selling his work at craft shows. In recent years, his travels have begun to inspire his own writing, so he sends me his thoughts.
June 18
I wish there were a brook
Outside my window
Babbling my spirit
To some contemplative place
Perhaps a light breeze
Rustling the leaves
Would be kind to my ears
And take me to ground
There is a feeling
Much larger than peace
Urging our attention……
Screaming in its quiet way
Daily life
Mother of myopia
Dragging our minds
To Sturm und Drang
I will indulge myself
At least once a day
In acts of introspection
A self guided tour
I will take myself
To a place of babbling brooks
And rustling leaves
I will be their source
